And now… the second part of This Christmas Morning 🙂 Enjoy!

*~*~*

I wonder if this is how Mary felt when she gave birth in a stable. Afraid, helpless. Thoughts churned in Emma’s head as they prepped her for the surgery. But in the end, the Child was born, Jesus Christ. What an – an honor, a joy, a humbling experience. Even through this experience, the end will be worth it — our baby boy.
Dave still clutched Emma’s hand, strong and steady, yet Emma knew he was terrified, trembling within.
“Dave,” she murmured. “Honey, don’t worry. God is with us. I was just thinking that — how even though we need to go through this experience that is scary for us, in the end it will all be worth it. We’re gonna have our baby boy.” Emma closed her eyes and felt her heart sing for joy, yet quiver in anticipation.
Emma felt Dave’s hand relax a little, and he pressed his head against hers. “Let’s pray real quick, okay? I think we’re going into the delivery room in just a few minutes.”
Emma nodded eagerly and bowed her head as Dave began praying. It started out as a soft whisper, which turned into a fervent intercession.
Finally, the time came. Emma was wheeled into the C-section delivery room, Dave right beside her. The room was bright, white, and cold. Emma closed her eyes as they began the surgery. In less than 10 minutes a sharp cry pierced the air. Dave and Emma began to weep with joy and relief, with their hearts lifting up praise to God.
Dave cut the cord as Emma was being stitched up, and for a brief moment they showed Brenna her beautiful baby.
Emma touched the infant’s tiny finger. “Oh, you’re such a handsome boy. I love you.”
“Hon, you wouldn’t believe it,” Dave whispered. “It’s a girl.”
“A — a girl?” Emma couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “But the doctors said it was a boy…” But Emma couldn’t say anymore, for in a few moments they were ready to bring her to the recovery room.
Dave sat beside Emma as she laid in the hospital bed. He stroked her hair. “I love you. You were so brave, Em. And think… a girl.”
Emma smiled wearily. “I haven’t a clue what we’re going to name her.”
“I would want to name her after her mama, but that would get confusing.”
“I’ve no idea. Right now I just want to see this little girl of mine.” Emma sighed contentedly. “I think they’re bringing her from the nursery soon.”
Dave nodded and kissed Emma on the forehead. “We’re parents, Em.”
“Yes, we are,” Emma closed her eyes and stroked Dave’s hand.
Soon a cry came from the hallway, as a nurse brought in their baby girl. Emma brought the little one to her chest and nursed her for the first time, tears of joy streaming down her face.
“She’s beautiful, Dave. So perfect.”
Dave stroked his daughter’s back. “I’m thinking Jane. Noelle Jane. It IS Christmas Day after all.”
“Dave, that’s… perfect. It fits her just — just so well. Merry Christmas, Noelle,” Emma whispered as she kissed the top of Noelle’s head. “And Merry Christmas, Dave.”
He kissed his wife, then gently lifted Noelle into his arms. “Hello, little, beautiful one. I think she looks like me, don’t you think, Emma?”
When no answer came from Emma, Dave looked down, only to see that his wife was unconscious.
“Emma? Wake up, honey.” Dave gently touched her shoulder, but Emma didn’t wake up. “Uh, Nurse? Can you come here?” He quickly walked into the hall, finding that the nurse was already on her way.
“What’s the problem, Mr. Stanton?”
“It’s… it’s Emma. She was just awake a minute ago, and now she’s not waking up.”
The nurse quickly checked for a pulse, frowned, then checked Emma’s vitals. “Her heart rate is dropping, and she has a light and thready pulse. I’ll have to call a doctor. Excuse me.” In a few moments, the doctor hurried into the room, apparently already informed of Emma’s condition.
By this time Dave was scared half to death. “What’s the matter with my wife?! Doctor, what’s going on?”
The doctor immediately pressed the pager button. “I need a team in here. We have a medical emergency.”
“What? What’s going on?” Dave pressed the now screaming Noelle to his chest and tried to sooth her in the midst of the chaos.
“Excuse me, Mr. Stanton. You’ll have to step out. We need to help your wife.” A team of nurses and assistants entered the room, and Dave was forced out, only helpless to see his wife fade slowly away, with nothing he could do but pray on this Christmas night.
